Yard Sale

yard saleyard sale

Last Saturday I had my first and I would say last yard sale.

I always donate my unwanted things but this time I decided to have a yard sale before bringing the things to donation.  It wasn’t only for the money it was also to experience that.

Little did I know about yard and garages sales so I did a research to find out about it and to get some tips.  I found this yard sale queen lady (http://www.yardsalequeen.com/) who gave very good tips on yard sales.

One of the things that we like the most about our yard sale was to see the characters’ type who would come to check it out.

Here they are:

“The early birds”- They show up before you have the time to set up all of your stuff and either will look around or will ask your for some particular thing.

The Jewelry searches”- They are the first ones to show up and they will ask for jewels. I think they might be jewelry owners or resellers. They will buy your jewel cheaper and get a good deal later on.

“Yard sale’s holders” (they were having their yard sales in the same day that ours) – they were my favorites! I laugh so much. They would come very briefly just to check it out the competition.  We decided to give them some help. We printed a map from our yard sale to theirs to lead people that were coming to our yard sale to go to theirs. My husband even went to their yard sale to tell them that we would do that. This way they didn’t have to worry about coming every time.

“The Drivers” – They would come by and drive in front of your house just to check your stuff from the car. If there was something interesting they would see from there they would stop and look around. If they didn’t see anything they like they would just leave.

“The gang”– They would come in two or three cars and drive to your driveway if possible and would check your stuff. They come together and leave together. Although, one of the guys from the group was left behind in my driveway because his truck got stuck in the grass. Their friends came right after him when he called.

“The Flashers” – they would come and go really fast. Those were the ones who were looking for a particular item. Sometimes they would just come and ask what they were looking for.

The less than a dollar” – The ones who want it to buy something less than a dollar from your stack.

The no-buying type”- The ones who you think will never buy anything from you and they will surprise you buying what you never expected.

The bargains” – They will always offer less for your item even if it is a good price already.

“The Late ones” – they show up at the end when you already packed your stuff. I think they might come for the half prices or free stuff.

Nonetheless, today was I quiet Saturday morning at the Silva’s very different from last Saturday. I am so glad my yard sale was over. I don’t think I would do that again it is really hard working and at the end to have to put your stuff back in the house again it is hard. So anyway I might do a moving sale before we move to our next house.  😉

See you all latter,

Cristina.

p.s. It was also our family fun breakfast!

Monica’s Gang – father’s day back to childhood / Turma da Mônica – dia dos pais de volta a infância

Last weekend was Monica’s Gang for breakfast

David was very excited for his second family fun breakfast

David

We decorate our kitchen table with the theme. Even Smudge left his impression on the table.

We had Monica’s face on our plates. At least we tried. J Monica’s hairs were bananas with cinnamon, her eyes were a piece of toast, Canadian bacon, sliced boiled eggs and hollandaise sauce. For her mouth we had sliced strawberry and two sliced cheese. Just know I notice she didn’t have her nose.

We also had Maggy’s favorite fruit watermelon (I have forgotten how good watermelon is and what a great fruit for summer) and we didn’t forget our “mingau” which is a childhood traditional porridge made with milk, sugar and cornstarch. Also “Mingau/ Vanilla” is the name of “Magali’s/ Maggy” kitty.

We had masks represented our favorites characters from Monica’s Gang.

David wanted to eat his mask so it mess it up a little at the end of our celebration.

This time he used his Monica’s Gang bottle (the one he got from our friends Teco and Sil).

David

Our refrigerator was filled with a bunch of information on Monica’s Gang.

And we worshiped at the song of Charlie Hall – “Marvelous Light”

E nós louvamos ao som do Charlie Hall – “Marvelous Light”

It was fun to remember our childhood favorite comics, see you next Saturday.

Family Fun Breakfast/ Café da Manhã Divertido da Família

Inspired by Heather from www.whittakerwoman.typepad.com this weekend we start a new tradition in our family. It’s called “Family fun breakfast”. Before David we always had our Saturday Brunch which was pretty fun but now that we have him we decided to make that idea more interesting. Every Saturday we are going to come up with a new theme and everything that is on the table or in our TV room will have that theme. We will try to experiment with a variety of health ingredients because we are watching very careful what we eat (that is for another post though).

So here are the pictures of our first “Family Fun Breakfast” We had a blast!

The theme for this Saturday was: “Summer is here!”

O tema deste sábado foi: “Chegou o Verão”

Havaianas

We had our TV room decorated with beach towels and summer stuff

Summer is here/ O verão chegou

Dad (my love) and David had a little rehearsal before breakfast

Daddy and David/ Papai e David

We had Grits (for mommy) and Oat meal (for daddy) as our beach sand, cereal as shells, ham as our beach towels on which the mini grapes and cheese kabobs were sunbathing and we didn’t forgot our decaffeinate coffee and our orange and carrots juice.

Table/ Mesa

David even got his breakfast with us! He loved his little things to play with.

Ele amou as coisinhas pra brincar.

After breakfast we had a worship time to the song of Matt Redman’ “You Never Let Go” and we had a great time as a family.

Depois do café da manhã nós tivemos um tempo de louvor ao som de Matt Redman “You Never Let Go” e nós tivemos um ótimo tempo como família.

David

David was really exhausted after all that was going on, but we tried hard to take a picture of the tree of us.

Us/ Nós

So thanks Heather to come up with this great idea and I hope my family can continue having this time every Saturday.

I’ll try to post pictures of our Family Fun Breakfast,

Lol,

Cristina Silva.
